HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION

Great news for high school students!

Interested in attending Gene Juarez Academy? Well, if you’re a high school senior you’re in luck! This is when the application process typically starts. We recommend you schedule a Job Shadow appointment where you’ll have the opportunity to visit with currently enrolled students and get a sneak peak at what we’re all about.

Think we might be the right school for you? Schedule a tour and planning session with an Admissions Advisor at the campus you want to go to. Bring your parents too ‘cause you’ll be getting stuff like detailed information about our program and financial aid. You’ll also get an in-depth tour of the campus.

Even if you’re not going to be a senior for another year or two, stay in touch with us! Visit our website, check out our booth at your school’s Career & College Fairs, get to know our Career Specialist, and don’t be shy about becoming a regular for hair services with our student artists.

The strength building skills are phenomenal, you grow as a person as well as a stylist. I enrolled right out of high school & feel that my education at GJA really made me into the professional person that I am today.

— Allyssa Hoskins-Cook, Graduate, North Campus

FAQs

Got questions? We’ve got the answers.

Why is cosmetology a smart career choice?

Not only is cosmetology a 60 billion dollar industry, it’s stable, provides endless opportunities and remember, people will always need to have their hair cut.

Plus, as a cosmetologist, you can work anywhere in the country, full-time or part-time. Cosmetology opens the door to a number of exciting career choices, like hair designer, colorist, platform artist, product educator, salon owner, cosmetology instructor, image consultant, celebrity stylist, beauty or fashion writer and fashion stylist.

What’s so great about Gene Juarez Academy?

Gene Juarez Academy trains more successful cosmetologists than any other school in the Northwest. It’s true! We create well-rounded professionals who become beauty and fashion industry leaders. As a premier salon and spa organization and leader in cosmetology education, we’ve earned the reputation for providing quality and excellence in everything we do. Students learn communication skills and develop positive habits and attitudes. Career preparation includes the understanding of equipment and hair care products as well as artistic appreciation and expression. Best of all, our graduates are among the most sought-after in the industry.

Did we mention Gene Juarez Academy offers a life-friendly schedule? Our program consists of 3 ten-hour days a week, so you have 4 days a week to work or spend with family and friends. Plus, Gene Juarez Academy is accredited, so we offer federal financial aid to those who qualify.

What is accreditation? And how does it affect me?

Accreditation is a formal status granted to an institution meeting or exceeding stated educational quality criteria. In other words, Gene Juarez Academy has done all the right stuff to give the school extra recognition. Gene Juarez Academy is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS). Accreditation is a voluntary process that demonstrates our academies exceed national standards.

Another bonus of being accredited? We offer Financial Aid assistance, which consists of things like federal student loans and grants, Washington State Need Grants, and veteran’s educational benefits to those who qualify.

How long is the program?

The Cosmetology program is 1600 hours and takes about 13 months to complete.

Do you offer part-time or evening classes?

No, but our 3-day schedule allows students to still have time for work, family and friends.

So, how do I get started?

A one-on-one information session with a Gene Juarez Academy Advisor is required. We want to meet you in person, learn more about your interests and goals, answer your questions, and show you our campus. This way you can leave the session having a good understanding of what it’s really like here and if a career in Cosmetology is the right fit for you. You’re welcome to bring a family member or friend if you’d like!

What are your admission’s requirements?

In addition to meeting with an Admissions Advisor, you must have a diploma or GED, meet our cognitive, communication and physical requirements, and be at least 17 years old.

Do I need prior experience?

Not at all, you just need to have an interest in learning to do hair, meeting new people, and having fun!

Do you accept scholarships?

Yes, we encourage you to apply for any and all scholarships.

If you’re currently a high school senior, you may apply for the following scholarships: Gene Juarez Academy Scholarship Careers that Work Scholarship and Imagine America Scholarship

How soon will I know if I qualify for financial aid?

This can be a very quick process provided you have the right documents. After you meet with an admissions advisor we’ll schedule a one-on-one appointment with a financial advisor 2-3 days later. At this time, we’ll work with you to finalize your customized financial plan. We want you to be able to start your exciting career as soon as possible!

Can I transfer hours earned at another Cosmetology school?

Due to the unique nature of our program, we accept up to 100 hours earned from another Washington State cosmetology school within a two year period on a case-by-case basis.

Do I have to work at Gene Juarez Salons and Spas when I graduate from Gene Juarez Academy?

No. At Gene Juarez Academy, we support your desire to work at any salon of your choice.

Will Gene Juarez Academy help me get a job when I graduate?

Yes! Our graduates are highly sought after. And being a Nationally Accredited school, Gene Juarez is held accountable for placement services. While placement is never guaranteed, we work extensively to make sure you get placed in your chosen field. We have an externship program with more than 130 salon partners, which provide in-salon training with industry employers. We also conduct career fairs where salon owners and hiring managers get the chance to speak with you and see your work in person.
